Explore the beauty in cultures through different cuisines

Updated: Nov 5

UMN Students - Embark on a global culinary adventure at our event!

December 9th is quickly approaching, and we’re thrilled to invite you to an unforgettable event designed to whisk you around the world – no passport required, everyone is welcome! Join us at the Carlson Atrium from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. for a global culinary celebration, crafted just for you and fellow students. Join us for a break from the finals prep! Our goal is to explore and celebrate different cultures through food so whether you’re a foodie, a culture enthusiast, or just looking for a great time, here’s why this event is a must-attend!

Food plays a great role in defining different cultures as it reflects unique histories, traditions, and values. In many cultures, food is more than just sustenance; it’s a way to connect with others and honor heritage. For example, in Italy, gathering for a meal is central to family life and social bonding, where dishes are passed down through generations. In India, food isn’t just about flavor but also reflects spiritual beliefs, with spices and ingredients chosen for their symbolic meanings. Overall, food traditions provide a sense of identity and community, helping people from different backgrounds celebrate and pass on their cultural roots.

1. Taste the World in One Place

Get ready to explore an array of dishes from every corner of the globe! We’re carefully curating a selection of cuisines to highlight diverse flavors and traditions, celebrating how food connects us all. Expect unique tastes and culinary surprises, with each dish a window into a different culture and its stories.

For many students, especially those away from home, this event offers a chance to savor tastes that might feel familiar and comforting—or totally new and exciting. And for international students, this event might just include a taste of home! This event will provide us all a way to come together and learn about different cultures: through the cuisines of the world.

2. A Chance to Connect and Celebrate with Friends

This event is more than just (free!) food. It’s a space to connect with fellow students, build memories, and appreciate the diversity within our campus community. Bring your friends and share in the experience as you taste different dishes, learn more about the cultures they represent, and maybe even discover a new favorite cuisine.

The Carlson Atrium will be transformed for this celebration, setting the perfect atmosphere to unwind, catch up, and even make new friends. This is the place to be if you’re looking for a festive way to close out the semester together.

3. Celebrate the Power of Community and Culture

At its heart, this event is about celebrating the multicultural community at the University of Minnesota and in Minneapolis. We’re proud to bring together a mix of students, each contributing to the rich cultural fabric of our campus. By coming together to enjoy this culinary journey, you’re part of a larger story – one of diversity, respect, and unity.

There will be plenty of chances to snap some photos, share your favorite dishes, and take home memories (and maybe a few recipes!).
