Snack time was a highly anticipated event back in elementary school. From the savory crunch of rainbow goldfish to the sweet, juicy bite into a gusher, there’s something so irreplaceably nostalgic about our favorite childhood treats. We’re taking you on a yummy trip down memory lane with the top 8 snacks from our childhoods!
Gripz Chips
These tiny baked snack packs were a go-to for all occasions, from packed school lunches to after school-activities. The delicious, bite-sized minis always hit the spot. They satisfied your cravings whether you wanted a sweet treat, with the graham crackers or chocolate chip cookies, or a savory one, with the Cheez-Its!
2. Gushers
Do you remember the immediate enjoyment you got when you bit into a soft and chewy gusher? The burst of fruity flavor hitting your tongue could cheer up any day! These were a hit with everyone, and a staple in the lunch box, too. Luckily, these snacks stood the test of time, and they're probably just as popular with today's youth.
3. Trix Yogurt
Say it with me - Silly Rabbit, Trix are for kids! Trix Yogurts were a fruity, sweet, and refreshing snack from the 1990s to the early 2010s. They were as delicious on their own as they were combined with Trix cereal, which was beloved by kids everywhere. What’s more, it wasn’t really yogurt to us, it was just like eating candy! Unfortunately, these yogurts eventually got discontinued, but they were brought back in 2021!
4. Oreo Cakesters
Who doesn’t love biting into a giant, soft Oreo? It's the one thing better than a classic, and even a Double Stuf! It was always a good day when you opened your lunchbox and found these inside. These were unfortunately discontinued in 2012, and made a return in 2022. Thank goodness Nabisco brought them back!
5. Fruit Roll-Ups (with tattoos)
Tattooing your tongue was a delicate operation. One small slip, and your smiley was smudged. On the bright side, you had a fruity, tooth-sticky treat to enjoy after! Fruit Roll-Ups are a classic, a snack that is both delicious and as fun to play with as your favorite toy. The only thing that could possibly make the experience better is the tattoo!
6. Scooby-Doo Fruit Snacks
Scooby-Doo fruit snacks were the perfect fruity treat for after school! No other fruit snacks compared, especially when it comes to the matte blue Scooby snack (bring it back, General Mills!). Luckily, Scooby Snacks are still available today. Who would reach for a regular fruit snack when you could have these?
7. Rainbow Goldfish
There was something about making a snack multicolored that was so appealing to our younger selves! Whether you used to sort the crackers into categories by color before eating, made the crackers “battle” to see which one broke first, or simply went straight to chowing down, it’s clear rainbow Goldfish made their mark as a great childhood snack.
8. Froot Loops Cereal Straws
Who didn’t love drinking a glass of milk with an edible Froot Loops straw? You could get your Froot Loops fix any time of day with these. Whether you finished the milk before eating the straw, or chose to chomp as you go, it made that daily glass of milk twice as fun, and twice as delicious. These were discontinued in 2009, and after a long hiatus, came back in 2021!
Bet we made you hungry! Whether a rough day at school or a tumble on the playground, these snacks were the best pick-me-up for our younger selves. Luckily, most of these snacks are still available today, and a few have even been brought back after discontinuation. Those of us who grew up on these fun snacks can turn back time by simply adding it to our weekly grocery list and reliving the feel of snack time as a kid.
Let us know if you agree with our list! Are there any snacks we missed?
